"Cotton was King," and the ship captains who successfully delivered this precious commodity into the hands of mill owners in New England and Europe often had more money than time on land to spend it! But from the Far East they brought back silks and china; from Europe the latest fashions for women and men. During their infrequent stays on terra firma, they furnished their houses with reminders of life on the open sea and unique treasures from their travels afar. Hearken back to those nostalgic colonial days with a stay in the Captain's Quarters, and/or the adjacent Crow's Nest, two fully-restored downtown properties within an easy walk or bike ride to Savannah's most popular venues, including Forsyth Park, the Juliet Gordon Low House and other fine museums, City Market, River Street, and a host of dining and shopping options. During your stay you'll enjoy tasteful furnishings, professional decor and comfortable, newly-restored surroundings in both residences. The Captain's Quarters, built in 1887, features two bedrooms, each with its own bath, plus spacious living and dining areas, a working fireplace and a fully-equipped kitchen capable of producing cuisine from the simple to the sublime! In addition, the property features a brand-new leather sleep sofa and, upstairs in the loft, a double-size trundle to comfortably sleep up to four additional individuals. Should you need either smaller accommodations or enough additional room besides the Captain's Quarters to sleep up to 12 persons (perhaps a wedding party or family group), you will love the Crow's Nest, an award-winning carriage house dwelling at the rear of the main house. The Crow's Nest has its own kitchen, living/dining area with queen sleep sofa, and a spiral staircase leading to a loft with a double bed and full bath, providing the perfect couple's getaway or affordable small family retreat. During your stay in either property, you can enjoy Savannah's warm year-round temperatures in the homes' private courtyard, featuring lush tropical plantings, and ample deck and patio seating. In addition, the Captain's Quarters has a private roof deck for stargazing, sunbathing, reading or just catching a nap! Both properties also enjoy plenty of free, on-street parking (not always a given in Savannah's busy downtown!)
